Le Mercure Galant October 1678 : This is the first gazette to report on the fashion world. Le Mercure Galant was founded in 1672 by Jean Donneau de Visé. See the book of DeJean, Joan. The Lady's Magazine, or Entertaining Companion for the Fair Sex, Appropriated Solely to Their Use and Amusement, (1770-1837) : copy of a plate from july 1790 issue.

 

Copy of the 1821 issue of The Lady's Magazine: This British fashion magazine was a big sucess and very influencial. The first color plates appeared in 1790. Published in London, monthly, printed by GGJ and J Robinson.

le Cabinet des Modes ou Les Modes Nouvelles 1785-1789 . That bimonthly magazine issued before the French revolution was edited to promote the French fashion troughout the world. There were three black and white engraving plates in each issue.
Journal de la Mode et du Gout: one of the fashion magazine published in France during the French revolution from 1790 to 1793. It contained color plates of costumes and precise description.

Le Journal des Dames et des modes was founded in Paris in 1797 by Sellèque and edited two years later .by M. de la Mésangère (1761-1831) . Pierre de la Mésangère was a Priest , former teacher of philosophy . It was an immediate success

The Woman's Home Companion was one of the most popular at the turn of the century. It was first published as The Home in Cleveland in 1873. The magazine was sold to Crowell ( publisher of Farms & Fireside ) in 1885.
