Museum of Arts and Design 

There are over 100 quilts from seventeen countries in the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design. Many of these examples go far beyond the patterns, forms, and materials seen in traditional quilts. Patterning in the work of Marilyn Henrion and Joy Saville demonstrates a painterly sense of color and abstraction, while the narrative quilts of such artists as Faith Ringgold, Peggie Hartwell, and Terese Agnew offer social and political commentary. In addition, artists have used quilting techniques to create atypical forms, such as Sanae Hattori's kimono-shaped quilt. Aside from utilizing fabrics, some artists like Anne Marie Kenny have used innovative materials, as in Kenny's “Industrial Quilt” which incorporates found electronics parts.
